Giancarlo Mattioli

Giancarlo Mattioli was an Italian architect and designer known primarily as the creator of the Nesso lamp (1965) for the company Artemide. This project, created in cooperation with the Archbitetti Urbanisti Città Nuova group, became an icon of the Italian design of the 1960s. It is characterized by a futuristic form and making of colored ABS plastic, which was innovative at that time. The Nesso lamp has gained recognition around the world and was included in the Museum of Modern Art (Moma) permanent collection in New York. Mattioli, through his projects, contributed to the development of modern industrial design, combining functionality with aesthetics inspired by pop-art movement and space.
