Bill Curry

Bill Curry (1927–1971) was an American designer who became famous as a pioneer of the design of the Era Space Age. In 1962 he founded his own Design Line studio, where he created the concept of "Total Look" in lighting, eliminating the traditional division of the lamp into the base, bulb and lampshade. His most important project was the Stemlite collection, recognized in 1965 as a lamp of the year by Industrial Design. Curry lamps were presented at exhibitions as a symbol of modern American design. Just before his death, he designed the iconic Obello lamp, produced today by Gubi. He combined functionality with a soft, futuristic form. His works are today icons of American modernism and an example of formal courage of the 1960s and 70s.
