Mathieu Matégot

Mathieu Matégot was a Hungarian-French designer and artist who brought exceptional artistic sensitivity to the world of design. The architect by profession, he was characterized by a talent for combining functionality with a sculptural form. Known from the technique of rigitulle - a bent, perforated sheet, which he treated as a fabric - he created light, dynamic furniture and lamps that resemble spatial compositions. He collaborated, among others with the brand Gubi, which restored its projects, such as the Nagasaki chair, Copacabana armchair or Kangourou table. After 1959, he devoted himself to the creation of monumental abstract tapestries, which are decorated with public institutions, including Australia National Library. Matégot remains one of the most poetic creators of modernism - combining art, craft and industry.
