Herzog & de Meuron is the Swiss architect office Ton founded in 1978 in Basel by Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron. The duo has gained global recognition thanks to projects combining the innovative form with deep respect for the cultural and material context. Their architecture is characterized by experimenting with texture, light and structure, often redefining the appearance of public buildings. The most famous projects include Tate Modern in London, the Allianz Arena stadium in Munich, Elbphilharmona in Hamburg and the seat of Prada Foundation in Milan. In 2001 they became winners of the prestigious Pritzker Award. In their projects, they combine art, technology and craftsmanship, creating iconic objects, but rooted in place.
