Bestlite is part of the Danish brand design group Gubi. The lamp was designed by Robert Dudley Best and celebrates elegant, clean lines with a clear reference to the Bauhaus period. Focusing on a straight lampshade, characteristic of the entire collection, the BL9 hanging lamp ensures targeted light perfectly by fitting e.g. to the kitchen or dining room.

The design of the Bestlite lamp was first used in the engineering workshops of the Royal Air Force. The article at the Architects Journal praising the Bestlite model has paid particular attention to this lamp. Soon a public demand for Bestlite lamps appeared, and when Wins Ton Churchill personally chose the Bestlite Bl1 table lamp for his desk, the status of the Bestlite icon was assured.
Robert Dudley Best was a British designer who revolutionized the lighting industry. As a heir to Best & Lloyd, he decided to create a modern collection of lamps, introducing innovative design. He studied design in Düsseldorf and Paris, where he met Walter Gropius, the founder of Bauhaus, which had an impact on his later work. In 1930 he designed the Bestlite lamp, combining functionality with elegance with simple lines and geometric shapes. The lamp gained international recognition especially after Wins Ton Churchill chose it to his desk. Bestlite has become a symbol of modern design, and today it is produced by the brand Gubi, being an icon of the Bauhaus style. His works remain an important reference point in the history of design.
