Thijs Smeets

Thijs Smeets is a Dutch designer and engineer who founded the SMEETS studio in Amsterdam in 2007. His works include a wide range - from furniture, through consumer electronics, to interior design and wellness products. They are distinguished by an intelligent combination of functionality with elegance, which makes them timeless. As a student, he gained recognition by designing eyeglass frames for Maxmar, which is still in production today. In 2010, his biodegradable vessels for Hampi Products were awarded to Toon Van Tuijl Design Award. Lililite lamp brought him international fame - an innovative combination of shelves for books and bedside lamps. Smeets has collaborated with many reputable brands, such as Unilever, Nokia, Leolux and Gispen. His projects were presented at exhibitions from Seoul to New York, and many of them went to permanent museum collections, including Steedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
