The 2065 was originally designed in 1950 by Gino Sarfatti. The frame was re-launched by Astep in 2016, who also designed a black version in which the upper frame is finished with a soft-touch coating. This leaves the lower diffuser as the sole light source, creating a more intimate light space and a strong, graphic expression.
Gino Sarfatti was an outstanding Italian lighting designer considered one of the most important pioneers of modern design in this field. In 1939 he founded the Arteluce brand, which introduced a modern design to Italian lighting design. The engineer by education, designed over 600 lamp models, combining technological precision with an elegant, timeless form. He experimented with new materials, such as aluminum or plexiglass, creating projects ahead of their times. His most famous work is the ceiling lamp 2097 - an icon of modern design. Sarfatti's works are in the collections of museums around the world.
