Santiago Calatrava

Santiago Calatrava is a Spanish architect, engineer and sculptor born in 1951 in Valencia. Known for futuristic, sculptural buildings connecting architecture with engineering. His designs are characterized by a dynamic form, inspiration with nature and expressive use be Ton, glass and steel. He graduated from engineering in Zurich, where he founded his own studio. He designed, among others WTC Oculus station in New York, a city of art and science in Valencia and bridges such as Zubizuri in Bilbao. Calatrava creates works that are a combination of art, functions and technology, often causing controversy by costs and technical challenges.
