Bestlite is part of the design group of the Danish brand Gubi. The lamp was designed by Robert Dudley Best and celebrates elegant, clean lines with a clear reference to the Bauhaus period. Focusing on the simple lampshade, characteristic of the entire collection, the BL9 hanging lamp provides directed light and fits perfectly, for example; for the kitchen or dining room.

The Bestlite lamp design was first used in Royal Air Force engineering workshops. An article in Architects Journal praising the Bestlite model drew particular attention to this lamp. There was soon a public demand for Bestlite lamps, and when WinsTon Churchill personally selected the Bestlite BL1 table lamp for his desk, Bestlite's iconic status was assured.
Robert Dudley Best was a British designer who revolutionized the lighting industry. As a heir to Best & Lloyd, he decided to create a modern collection of lamps, introducing innovative design. He studied design in Düsseldorf and Paris, where he met Walter Gropius, the founder of Bauhaus, which had an impact on his later work. In 1930 he designed the Bestlite lamp, combining functionality with elegance with simple lines and geometric shapes. The lamp gained international recognition especially after Wins Ton Churchill chose it to his desk. Bestlite has become a symbol of modern design, and today it is produced by the brand Gubi, being an icon of the Bauhaus style. His works remain an important reference point in the history of design.
