Illum Wikkelso

Illum Wikkelso was a Danish furniture designer related to the modernist style and Scandinavian design of the mid -20th century. He graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, and began his career as a carpenter and designer in companies such as Jacob Kjær or E. Petersen. He founded his own studio in 1954. His designs are distinguished by organic forms, attention to ergonomics and masterful use of wood and palisander wood. Wikkelso combined functionality with an elegant, subtle detail. His most famous are his seats and sofas, such as V11, Capella and the "Ring Chair" models. Although his works were popular in the 1960s and 1970s, they are experiencing a renaissance today and are valued by design collectors for a timeless character.
