The design of the Scantling floor lamp utilizes the beauty and simplicity of basic geometric shapes. Scantling relies on a highly functional and flexible system where all movements of the fully rotatable shade rely on ball joints and arms to allow the light to be freely directed in the direction you choose. Moreover, thanks to technical precision, the lamp maintains its set position without any exposed springs or counterweights. The word Scantling refers to a wooden strip that was formerly used as a unit of measurement, especially in the shipbuilding industry.
Mathias Hahn is a German designer and artist whose work combines modern minimalism with refined geometric aesthetics. He specializes in designing lamps and everyday objects in which form meets function in a harmonious, almost sculptural way. His works are characterized by simplicity, lightness and a subtle sense of movement, and he treats each project as a small artistic installation.
