Samy Rio

Sam Rio is a French designer from Arles, who connects the craftsmanship with industry, creating balanced and innovative utility objects. After four years of study, he graduated from five -year studies in industrial design in Ensci - Les Ateliers in Paris. His works are characterized by the simplicity of form and a deep understanding of materials such as bamboo, ceramics, glass and invasive plants. In 2015, he won the Grand Prix Design Parade 10 in Villa Noailles for the Bambus industrialization project, which opened the door to his artistic residences in Cirva, Marseille, Cité de la Céramique in Sèvres, Ntri in Taiwan and Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto. He works with brands such as Petite Friture, for which he designed the Quasar lamp, combining functionality with aesthetics. Rio examines the boundaries between traditional craft and modern production, striving to create objects that are both ecological and available to a wide recipient.
