George Carwardine

George Carwardine (1887–1947) he was a British engineer and designer, known primarily as the creator of the Anglepoise lamp - icons of modern design. Specializing in vehicle suspension systems, in 1932 he developed an innovative spring mechanism, which allowed for precise lamp setting in any position without blocking it. Initially, he produced lamps in his workshop, but due to the growing interest, in 1934 he established cooperation with Herbert Terry & Sons, which began the mass production of the model Anglepoise 1227. Thanks to its functionality and aesthetics, the lamp quickly gained popularity in both industrial and home environments, becoming a symbol of British design. To this day, Anglepoise is valued for its durability, flexibility and timeless style, being an inspiration for many designers around the world.
