Jo Hammerborg

Jo Hammerborg was a Danish lighting designer who significantly influenced the development of modern design in Denmark in the second half of the 20th century. He was born in 1920 and initially worked as a goldsmith, which sharpened his sense into form and detail. He studied at the Danish Royal Academy of Fine Arts. He gained the greatest fame as the main designer and artistic director of Fog & Mørup in 1957–1980. He created over 60 lamp models, many of which like Nova, Orient or President became icons of Scandinavian design. His style is characterized by minimalism, elegance and functionality, as well as innovative use of metal, light and color. Hammerborg sought the light not only practical, but also aesthetic and moody. He died in 1982, and his work to this day enjoy the recognition of collectors and design lovers.
