Robert Dudley Best was a British designer who revolutionized the lighting industry. As a heir to Best & Lloyd, he decided to create a modern collection of lamps, introducing innovative design. He studied design in Düsseldorf and Paris, where he met Walter Gropius, the founder of Bauhaus, which had an impact on his later work. In 1930 he designed the Bestlite lamp, combining functionality with elegance with simple lines and geometric shapes. The lamp gained international recognition especially after Wins Ton Churchill chose it to his desk.
