Ark Journal Magazine Vol. XII

Home and design are two twin topics that run through the latest issue of Ark Journal. Volume XII considers the relationship between home - a source of comfort, shelter and inspiration - and design, not only in the context of structures and objects, but also the intangible: atmospheres, sense of belonging that shape our everyday lives and society. The central elements are materials, craftsmanship and traditions that are incorporated into modern design to give it meaning and authenticity. We explore how design influences emotions and behavior, creating intimate and thoughtful spaces that nurture creativity and contemplation.

We visit, among others, a New York tenement house that retains its Danish character, and a brutalist beTon house among the trees in Antwerp, which tells a noir story. Two apartments in Berlin, both centered around art, reflect very different lifestyles, while a stark house of shadows and light in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, reflects the landscape and city through materials.

For Japanese fashion visionary Jun Takahashi, his studio/home is the place where he develops the concepts of chaos and balance that permeate his runway collections, his art and new furniture designs.
